Navigating the APPIC internship process is stressful and quite involved in general, and it is even more complex for international students. Because APPIC internship positions must provide a stipend, international applicants must carefully navigate employment eligibility (work status) and/or funding requirements (e.g., federally funded internship positions may have extra requirements beyond the agency itself). Additionally, broader social and policy contexts, as well as geographic location, may influence applicants’ decisions during the application process.
DoISAP and its collaborators have compiled resources and notes from previous international student intern applicants (the most recent webinar was from October 2025). DoISAP has also created a community-sourced directory with notes regarding various internship sites.
